Great Product, Except the (Cheap) Rope. This is a great product and idea. The brackets seem very strong and the product worked perfectly as advertised. That said, the rope that accompanies the product is either too cheap or not the correct type for the product’s design. If you only plan to lift the bike up to the ceiling once a year, then you will probably be fine with the rope that comes with the product. However, daily or even weekly use will likely burn through the rope quickly. After lifting my bike one time, I noted a fray in the rope–I believe Disney Cars Boys Bike (16-Inch Wheels) occurred where the “locking mechanism” locked onto the rope. I intend to find a more durable rope/cable very soon. No five-star rating because of the rope.
It does the job. I installed the lift in my garage per the instructions – it was easy. Since the joists run cross-wise, I premounted the units to boards to span the open spaces. Also predrilled the holes for attaching to the joists.
The purpose of the lift is to hoist a 15 foot, 30 lb, extension ladder to the ceiling out of the way of a car. It works well with no modifications.
Great product, cheap screws. My wife and I installed this product last weekend. The installation was fairly easy except for the fact that the screws provided with the kit appear to be a very cheap quality and they stripped very easily when using a cordless drill. I ended up going with a regular screwdriver and still had to be very careful not to strip them. Overall though the product seems to work very nicely and it is very nice to have the bikes off the floor of the garage.
