Are you kidding?. I’m not sure whose payroll these other reviewers are on, or maybe they’ve just ever used an exercise bike post-1975, but this thing is a piece of garbage. I own a NordicTrack ProRider, and wanted to try this because Schwinn 140 Upright Exercise Bike had a physical flywheel vs. the magnetic one in the Nordi. Well, first off, this doesn’t feel any more like a real bike, so right away I lost on the deal. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not recommending the Nordi either, but this thing does make it look like a Rolls Royce.

When I took the Schwinn out of the package, it actually looked pretty high quality. The packaging was nice, the steps seemed simple and the first 5 minutes seemed like heaven. I actually thought to myself, wow, I’m gonna write a GREAT review on this thing if it works half as good as it looks. Wrong. Within 10 minutes of reading the mind-numbingly stupid instructions, my girlfriend was trying to talk me out of throwing it in the ocean. There are no explanations, very few exploded diagrams, and each drawing seemed to be done from 20 feet away – not even using the full micro-sized page on the booklet they provided.

I read the other reviewer’s comments about bumping his knees and I thought he must be doing something wrong. Nope. Unless you’re an elf, forget this piece of junk. You will hit your knees if you even come close to a workout.

The display also attracted me to this bike. Nah ah. Crap too. Hope you want to ride it in a dark room for the rest of your life, otherwise you’ll be guessing as to your workout.

Don’t get me started on the seat. I hope Tony Atlas is your neighbor. If not good luck locking this puppy down.

The description says something about a magazine rack. Where? Where would it go? I have a magazine rack for it – they’re called my hands. The display sticks out so far, good luck even trying to put an aftermarket rack on here.

Overall, the idea and features of this bike sound great, and the pieces seem to be quality, but this is a very, very poorly executed design and you’ll be miserable if you’ve ever used a real exercise bike before.

Sorry Schwinn, that’s the last thing I buy from you. Oh, BTW, this POS is actually made by Nautilus. I don’t know who to blame, so I won’t be buying either of their products anymore.

Schwin 140 upright bike. I received the bike quickly and put the bike together in about 1 hour. The front post which the handle bars attach to do not feel secure. No matter how hard I tighten the bolts, the post won’t stay tight. This does not effect the way the bike operates though. The seat is very wide and comfortable. The pedaling action is secure and smooth. The bike is very quiet while operating. The electronics work properly too. This is a good piece of cardio equipment and I would purchase the product again.

Satisfied. Last winter, I used the high school’s two-thousand dollar exercise bikes to prepare for my first ever racing season. I have never had an upsetting workout on those machines.

This year, after seriously considering a fluid trainer, I decided to buy my own exercise bike with eddy current brake resistance (just like the school’s) and other key features. I decided on Schwinn’s latest upright EB- 140.

I have been using it for about a month, and I am definitely satisfied with my purchase.

It’s silent. Showering aside, I can workout any time of the day without disturbing family members.

The levels offer more than enough resistance. 16 is awesomely hard.

Warnings:

The seat should be replaced to suit a human-sized butt.

The seat cannot be moved in enough to emulate my real bike.

Changing head position means readjusting the console to see your variables.

Level changes are not immediately displayed (the 6-second cycle must reach that point or it must be locked). Also, resistance takes four to five seconds to increase/decrease.

When a variable exceeds its limit, it resets (calories at 999). Eventually, beyond two hours, you may need a sheet of paper and a pencil to keep track.

There’s only sixteen levels, so easing from 6 to 8 (waiting at 7) isn’t really easy. You’re better off moving from 9 to 8.

Outstanding Excercise Bicycle!. I did extensive research before I bought this bike. I’ve ridden Schwinn 240 Recumbent Exercise Bike for about ten hours since assembly and am simply delighted with it. I am a good mechanic and assembled it by myself in about three hours. The assembly manual has little text, mostly illustrations; but they marginally suffice, more text would be very helpful.

The console electronic cable going the top of the front wheel hardware has connectors at both ends — they must be connected to the proper connectors, they are not the same configuration and are not interchangeable. So beware, the bike parts I received had this cable reversed so I was unable to connect the connectors until I removed the cable and reversed its “to — from” direction.

The text regarding the programming of a user is unsatisfactory, confusing, does not effective communicate to a reader.

When registering the bike, you must have its serial number, the serial number is located on the bottom of the front stabilizer, record it before you assemble the bike.

In sum, if you are looking for an outstanding recumbent exercise bike at a most reasonable price, I urge you to purchase this bike.

An evolving review…. This review will ne changed (and stars will go up) over time.

Today, I’m starting out with the shipping. The main reason I got this from Amazon was to avoid the MA sales tax and get free shipping. Buying it locally would have added $100 to the price. Wasn’t willing to pay that.

Unlike others, I wasn’t called by a shipping company to arrange a deliver time. In all fairness, however, I ordered this on a Monday and it was scheduled to be delivered by Fedex on a Friday, so that’s is a great turnaround time.

It was ultimately delivered a day earlier. However, it was left in my driveway, near the garage door, and wasn’t signed for. My neighborhood is infested with trash pickers, so this would have been easy pickins’ for some burly guys with a pickup truck. Fortunately, I was monitoring Fedex and the minute I saw it was delivered I rushed home to bring it inside.

First thing I noticed was that there was a 3″ diameter hole in the side of the box. (I later called Fedex to make sure they added this to their delivery report, in case I need to return).

I managed to get the thing inside the house. And there it sits, waiting for assembly this weekend. Stay tuned.

So far, the experience rates two stars, with the damage and lack of a phone call or signed receipt knocking it down to one, and then adding a star for the fast delivery time. Hope that everything will be fine and I will be able to raise the rating way up.

Just what I hoped for. I did alot of research before I decided to get this machine. It is everything I hoped for and needed. I had a friend put it together and it was up and running in 1.5 hours. I love it, use it two times a day and find it ‘easy’ on my knees and back. Very, very happy with this purchase.
