It was most inspiring to see both old and curent interviews with the women who took the jobs of test pilots during WWII (freeing up male test pilots for battle)- they were adventuresses then and their spirits still shine today! It was also disconcerting to hear of the poor treatment they received both from the government and many of the male pilots. Well researched and documented – surprisingly gripping. Worthwhile for all WWII buffs!

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I laughed, I cried, I was gripped by terror and euphoria, I was stunned and angry: I was struck by every emotion imaginable. What wonderful writing and what a wonderful story!!! I highly reccommend this book to everyone!

There is such a great depth in this book. Each character seems so real, so multi-dimensional, that you can’t help but feel what they are feeling. It is obious that Ms. Gruen has done her research on the subject – everything was accurate and I really liked that it was an informative story. I also loved that she stated in her author’s note that it was based on true stories from actual travelling circus members. I also really liked that she based Rosie on several different elephants – it made Rosie more real to me.

Everyone should read this book! It’s fantastic!!!!
