I won’t go into a long review here– I read mostly non-fiction because fiction typically bores me. About 10-20% of the time, though, I like to switch to fiction to enjoy “lighter” reading than the non-fiction I typically read. I picked up Catcher in the Rye in a bookstore on a whim the other day. It really, really blew me away! I NEVER laugh out loud when I’m reading, and I must’ve literally laughed outloud several dozen times when reading this book. It was SO funny! And just brilliantly written, enjoyable to read, fun but serious at times, etc. Just a great book, a classic, and one that I should’ve read earlier in life (I’m 37 now). I will likely re-read it every few years just to remind myself how much of a page-turner it was…

Yes, they’ve made a movie out of Densha Otoko, but it hasn’t the heart of the original television series. Whereas on the show, comedy was mixed in with emotion for the genuinely geeky otaku, in this film, they’ve basically take a pretty boy Japanese actor, put a bad wig and glasses on him, then guess what? half way through the story they give him a makeover, and voila! he becomes a pretty boy again. puleez. Two favorable points about this film, The TV actors makes a cameo at the very end, picking up the continuity for the TV movie, Densha Otoko Deluxe. Train Man: The Movie exists within the ‘world’ of Train Man, that is, when his story became famous in the TV series, they made a film out of his life, being this film. After its release in Japan, they made Densha Otoko Deluxe, wherein they show posters for the film and ridicule it. The film’s release has made all otaku celebrities, and women hound them wherever they go. Complicated.

First let me preface by saying that I do not review items often. However I was such taken aback by the quality of this piece of tech that I thought it deserved at least a few words. It arrived very quickly from the states (I’m based in the UK) excellent service, I placed the order on friday midday and then by Monday it was here! that is great service. The device feels really slick and smooth..the e-ink display is super crisp and crystal clear to read. very good contrasts and you can really appreciate the 16 shades of grey. it completely disappears after the first few lines. I turned it on straight out of the box and a few of my purchases were there waiting. the wireless system is very speedy, checked the kindle store just to see what it was like speed-wise. very fast and quick to download items. i really cannot fault this wonderful piece of kit!

Low Quality China Bike. The old saying “You Get What You Pay For” definitely applies here. This bike is low quality but you shouldn’t expect much these days when you pay $[...]. Good bikes are $[...]+ even for children. We put the bike together and found that both wheels were out of round. I had to true the wheels but even after that, the rims are still so low in quality that they weren’t very even. One other issue is that the caliper brakes are almost useless. I had to adjust them to the max just to get them close to the correct spot on the rim for them to work. The pads fall short of the metal part of the rim. The manufacturer should have saved the $[...] on the caliper brake and put Spider-Man 16-Inch Bike into better quality rims. It is ridable and my son loves Spiderman so we will keep it. Bear in mind that it will only be used for a year or two and you will be OK. If you are in the least bit worried about quality, go with a better brand at a bike store. I bought this bike at Target for $[...].
