I could not have loved it more. Water for Elephants is one of those wonderful novels that has an interesting setting, but it doesn’t let the setting take over the story. It is a novel about the people in that place, and the people of Benzini’s circus took over my mind and stay with me still.

Jacob begins Water for Elephants alone. Orphaned by his immigrant parents, he is weeks away from his Cornell graduation, but he simply cannot return to the life he has known. He jumps aboard a moving train-the train carrying the Benzini circus to its next production. No one on the circus cares that Jacob didn’t finish his final exams. The diploma, he is told, “is just a piece of paper, and nobody here gives a damn about that. You’re on a show now. The rules are different.”

In fact, the circus seems to have no rules at all. Jacob somehow finds other kind souls among the misfits, and these people work together to protect themselves and the animals. The villians-Uncle Al and August-are well described and three-dimensional. You understand why they behave the way they do. These villians are not cookie-cutter images, and their real-world sensibilities make them even more frightening.

I bought this product because I am a fiction junkie and waiting for my next fix to arrive in the mail whenever was tough. I couldn’t afford the newest version but this one works just dandy and I have my books within seconds of ordering them. Very handy is the easy to use dictionary feature that lets you look up words immediately just by pointing to them.(I’m not ashamed to admit I use that one a lot) I also like that almost every book I’ve looked up so far is in the system. And when I’ve spent my book money for the month, I can download samples and certain free materials to read and start making my list for next month. An excellent little space-saver, this thing has already saved me tons of shelf and box space with most of my new books saved to the kindle instead of stacked all over my tiny apartment. Most of the books do go for a cheaper than print price but some of the older books of series that are still churning out sequels are cheaper to get online or secondhand, but that’s if you can find them, and if you think it’s worth the shipping wait. One thing I was a tad disappointed in though was that there was no reading light. It’s my oppinion that on a device designed specifically for reading materials, a built in reading light should be a “duh feature” like the on/off switch or the menu button. It’s not a major issue though because the thing’s so thin that most booklights will attach to the kindle just as well as a book. In summation, the kindle is deffinately an easier, more fun way to read and I’m sure not sorry I bought mine.

Buy Hooks instead. Like others have experienced, the cords fall apart. A better solution is to buy two large hooks that screw into the ceiling studs, and hang the bike upside down by the rims. There are hooks that have rubber covers and do a better job than the Racor lift.
